BRIGHAM CITY, Utah – Storm Products, Inc. has announced that Matt McNiel joined Team Storm as Global Brand Ambassador. McNiel will join the business development team to build and implement new programs to educate bowlers around the world.
“I’m excited to work with very talented people who share my passion and love the sport of bowling,” McNiel said.
“I’m proud to join a company that is very progressive and is very instrumental in growing the sport of bowling.”
Prior to joining Storm, McNiel worked for the Target Corporation where he served as Lead Specialist for Corporate Security Services. In his new position, he will be developing coaching programs to educate both consumers and industry professionals in the bowling community. In addition, he will be creating educational assets to instruct bowlers of all skill levels which will be shared through our digital channels.
“Matt is a perfect fit for the Storm Family,” Gary Hulsenberg, Vice President of Business Development said. “Just like Storm, he’s focused on growing the sport and sharing his passion for bowling with every level of competitor from beginners to the top professionals. Matt is wildly intelligent, and Storm is lucky that he has chosen to join our team.”
McNiel started bowling at the age of three. As he grew, his love for the sport of bowling followed and soon he started working at the bowling center part time to earn the ability to practice. In 2001, his thirst for knowledge continued into the pro shop where he learned from his mentors, Carl Fietek and Scott Pohl. He enjoyed helping people improve their game and sharing information with customers about the sport. While cultivating his knowledge for bowling, he earned his undergraduate degree in law enforcement from Minnesota State University. He continued his education at Wichita State University where he achieved a master’s degree in Criminal Justice while competing for the Shockers.
McNiel is a fierce competitor on the lanes. In 2015, while competing for Wichita State, he joined his teammates to win the Intercollegiate Team Championships. He has earned four USBC Open Championship titles (three All-Event and one Open Doubles titles). In addition to his success at the Open Championships, he has earned two PBA regional titles, a Member/Non-Member doubles event with Patrick Allen, and joined the winning team at the 2015 PBA Team Challenge. He also holds several records in the sport of bowling. In 2010, he won the Regular All-Events title with a record score of 2,326. In addition, he recorded the sixth highest 9-game total at the St Paul USBC City Championships, tied for the most 800 series bowled in a single day, and holds the Minnesota state record for high average at 253. He has positively represented several companies in the bowling industry throughout his career.
McNiel truly has a passion for helping bowlers learn, improve and succeed. He will be representing Storm Products at sponsored events throughout the year to assist bowlers of all levels. He will also be working with the Storm Tour Representatives to share his proven lane play strategies and assist with ball selection for our Team Storm players on the PBA and PWBA Tours.
Storm has selected a winner of a guy. While most bowlers in our league congratulate give a hug, handshake or high five to bowlers who bowl 300 or 299 games before returning to their own game, Matt was different. My 70+ teammate, who Matt never met, had the first nine. Matt noticed from six lanes away. He left his game to watch the tenth frame. When my teammate fell short on the 12th shot, Matt congratulated him and sat down for a chat.
I talked later with Matt telling him that it was a classy act. Matt, in his humble sort of way, said it was nothing. He just wanted him to know that his first 300 game will come and enjoy the moment. We are all proud of his accomplishment.
Matt McNiel will represent Storm well!
